Even though Mexico is just across the southern border of the United States, the culture, economy and entire system is so much different than here at home. From hotels to restaurants and places where tourists frequent, you will see a blend of both cultures in everything from food to amenities. If this is your first trip to Mexico, you will probably want to bring along a few techie gadgets that will help you get more from your vacation in several ways. Let’s look at some of those gadgets you won’t want to be without.
Cell Phone with Tower Coverage in Mexico
Typically, you will find that all the major carriers in the United States have good coverage in Mexico but the two said to have the best coverage are AT&T and Verizon. Bear in mind that most of the prepaid phones will operate off those two towers here at home, so there is no reason to think their towers in Mexico will be any different. U.S. Cellular says they will work in Mexico and Canada but have blocked international calls to other countries.
A cell phone that has coverage in Mexico is probably the most important piece of tech you should pack and don’t forget that if you should experience an emergency requiring fast money from home, both iOS and android work there so you can install the Ria Money Transfer app to have money in your account within moments.
Camcorder to Record Your Journey South of the Border
Another piece of technology you will almost certainly want to have is a camcorder so that you can video record your travels through the country. From bustling cities to remote villages, this is a country where there is always music and dancing 365 days a year. The Mexican culture is one that loves to celebrate life so you will commonly hear mariachi bands playing at most restaurants and as street performers as well.
You may even want to start a travel vlog with all you can see and experience in Mexico, so if your cell phone doesn’t have a great camera, don’t forget to find an affordable one that will connect to your laptop which is the next important piece of technology you will need.
A Laptop with a Powerful GPU for Streaming
As your make your way through Mexico there will be many interesting sights you would like to share, in the moment, with friends and family back home. With a laptop that was designed with a fast GPU, you can stream and record all those fiestas you can find almost every day of the week. Once again, you will find that Mexicans love to sing and dance so there is always a reason for celebrating something, even if they need to make it up! There really isn’t a more fun-loving culture anywhere on earth.
Don’t forget to bring a special Mexican power adaptor/converter because they run on an odd voltage. You can plug in with two flat parallel pins or a three pin much like we have here at home but their voltage is 127V so you will need a special adaptor or converter. Also, do carry along a power supply in case one of your gadgets goes dead on the road. You won’t find power outlets as common in many villages as you would in the States in small towns, so plan accordingly. With the right tech at your disposal, this can be a trip you can bring home with you to enjoy for years to come.
